FoodFindsAsia | Multigrain Bread Vs. Whole Wheat Bread which is Healthier? | There are several types of grains in multigrain bread. None of them are whole grains. The three edible layers of the whole grain – bran, endosperm, and germ – are present in whole grain bread. Multigrain bread can be made with a variety of grains.

Whole Wheat Bread: What Is It?

The whole grain of wheat is referred to as whole wheat, which means it has not yet been refined or processed and must still contain endosperm, bran, and germ. In essence, you are getting 100 percent whole wheat bread for what you pay for.

Multigrain Bread: What Is It?

A loaf of multigrain bread consists of multiple grains in it. Grains such as wheat, barley, cornmeal, oats, buckwheat, flax, and millet can also be used. The word multiple is different for each.

There are not all whole grains out there. A few are refined and stripped of their natural fiber and nutrients. To determine if the grains are 100 percent whole grains, look at the ingredients list on the back of the label.

How Do Bread Flavors Differ?

In the United States, the most popular types of bread are whole wheat and multigrain. Below is a list of the different kinds of bread and what makes them unique, based on both their flavors and textures:

Whole wheat:

The whole wheat bread’s flavor and texture are typically soft, moist, and nutty. Peanut butter and jelly or melted cheese are good sandwich filling options on whole-wheat bread.

Multigrain:

A multigrain loaf has an earthy flavor and a similar texture to whole wheat bread since it typically contains a variety of grains.

The multigrain taste may also be slightly sweet, like that of whole wheat. Any sandwich can be made with multigrain bread. However, its sweet, earthy flavor can be balanced with fillings like pickles or mustard.

Whole grain:

Whole grain bread varies in flavor and texture depending on the grains used. For instance, the nutty flavor and grain texture of whole grain bread would be enhanced by whole flax seeds. Sandwiches with eggs and cheese, creamy chicken salad, or bacon and avocado are all good on whole grain bread.

What’s healthier?

Whole wheat bread is best and healthy for you than multigrain bread. Discussion over. Whole grain bread is packed with nutrients like B vitamins, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, and magnesium.

In addition to lowering stroke, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and colorectal cancer risks, eating whole wheat bread can help lower the risk of a stroke. Furthermore, whole wheat bread is also rich in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein.

One problem hurting multigrain’s chances is that the health benefits of multigrain bread are determined by the grains used. The multigrain bread may still be primarily made from white flour if it does not state that it is 100 % whole wheat or 100 percent whole grain.

Instead, choose bread marked “whole multigrain” or “whole wheat” on the label or “whole-grain flour” on the ingredient list. It will ensure your safety.
