When it comes to our health, brown rice has more health benefits than white rice. It contains fiber and essential fatty acids. It also contains essential nutrients such as vitamins B1, B3, B6 manganese, selenium, iron, phosphorus, copper, and magnesium.

While we want to opt for the healthier choice, some of us may have trouble preparing brown rice. Here are some tips to cook brown rice: Wash the brown rice. In a rice cooker, use the ratio of 1.5 cups water to 1 cup of brown rice. After the rice cooker clicked, let it stay for 10 more minutes. Serve and enjoy.

PINEAPPLE FRIED BROWN RICE

Ingredients:
3 cups cooked brown rice
1 tbsp. sesame olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium-sized onion, chopped
3 tbsp soy sauce
½ tsp ginger powder
¼ tsp white pepper
2 carrots, grated
1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
2 cups of pineapple, diced
½ cup ham diced
2 green onions, diced

Preparation:
In a bowl, whisk the following: soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger powder, white pepper and set aside.
In a pan, heat olive oil, and sauté garlic and onion. Stir in frozen mixed vegetables and carrots, until vegetables are tender.
Stir in rice, pineapple, ham and soy sauce mixture. Cook for another 2-5 minutes.
Serve immediately.

Cook time: 20 minutes

BROWN RICE, CHICKEN, AND PEAS

Ingredients:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 Whole skinned chicken, halved crosswise
Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 medium sized onion, chopped
4 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 cup cooked brown rice
4 pieces plum tomatoes, diced
1 10 ounce green peas
Lemon wedge for plating

Preparation:
In a pan, heat oil, season chicken with salt and pepper, cook until golden brown for about 10 minutes. set aside on a plate.
Add onion, garlic, salt, and pepper to the pan. Sauté for 3-5 minutes
Stir in rice, tomatoes, and ½ cup water. Put the chicken pieces over the rice mixture. Bring to a boil. Cook for 10-15 minutes. Sprinkle with peas, cover and remove from heat. Serve with lemon wedges.
