In the southern part of Luzon, outside the NCR region, far from the city lights of Metro Manila, lies a small coffee shop that does not only cater delectable coffee but also encourages the beauty of creativity and art in the City of Colors. From the progressing and humble city of Tanauan, we give you Barikafe Coffeehouse.
Young entrepreneur and owner Junicz Madrid decided to name the café BARIKAFE after the Tagalog word BARIK which means “inom” or “drink”, and KAFE from coffee. Thus the name BARIKAFE which pertains to a place to “drink coffee”.
With their vision to be a destination for artists where they can express their love for art in various ways, Barikafe Coffeehouse holds events such as art and photography exhibits, and spoken word poetry. In fact, Barikafe is the first café in Tanauan to hold an open mic for aspiring poets and open its doors for such gatherings. Music and harmony is also highly encouraged in the café as the management allows people to use their available instruments.
But the café is not just a haven for artists, it is also a perfect spot to relax. With cozy couches, piles of books, board games and that peaceful ambience partnered with their signature food, you will surely want to spend another hour or so and let the smell of coffee take your stress and worries away.
One other way to ease your stress is through music with a hot cup of coffee. Local artists and musicians gather on the café and jam on a mini-stage. Enjoy their free jamming sessions with their hot Latte (8oz P75, 120z P105). Sit back and relax as they sing you acoustic jams and melodies.
If you need something stronger to let your body loose, try one of the province’s delicious delicacies. Barikafe offers its customers the coffee for every Batangeño: Kapeng Barako (8oz P40, 12oz P55). Grab a book from the shelves and chill while sipping a hot cup of Kapeng Barako while indulging with a flavorful aroma and the rich taste of coffee.

The café does not only offer hot drinks but also comfort food from sandwiches to cakes, smoothies and pastas. One of their famous frappes is their Cookies&Cream (P130) which will give you the perfect blend of cookies and cream you enjoyed in your youth. Surely, you would not want to miss this. Invite the squad and play with cool board games the café has to offer while enjoying something sweet and familiar to your taste buds. You can also try two other flavors which are Green Tea and Graham.

Aside from their true blue Kapeng Barako, another must try in their menu is their Alfredo Pasta (P135) topped with grated cheese and served with a pair of delectable buttered toast. Avid customers would constantly order and recommend to try this delight.

The café started out as Junicz’ feasibility study in high school. Now, Barikafe is in its 2nd year and is continuously serving both great coffee and art. Located at Sixto Castillo St., cor. Collantes St., Tanauan City, Batangas. Let creativity shine, let Barikafe Coffeehouse be a haven of coffee and art.
